Welcome to Madison, Wisconsin

Welcome to Madison Wisconsin

Wisconsin's capital is known for its liberal and sometimes contentious politics. But it's also one of the nation's most beautiful cities with a most diverse culture. The city winds itself around three lakes, Mendota, Monona, and Wingra, creating beautiful vistas from its many hills as well as adding to its laid-back sailor's culture. Madison was founded in 1836 when Wisconsin was still just a territory. The massive University of Wisconsin was founded in 1849 and adds to Madison's individuality and moniker “72 Square Miles Surrounded by Reality.” Visitors can enjoy walks up and down State Street with its many cafes and pubs or some of the many water sports on Lake Mendota. Badger Saturdays each fall are especially cheerful as the city fills with thousands of red-clad college football fans.
